St Helen’s Exhibition May 18

St.Helen’s held an exhibition during the Ongar Town Festival on 6th May.  The church was open all day and visitors could read about the Titanic disaster and the life of Father Thomas Byles, a previous parish priest who died a hero during that terrible night. There was a display of newspaper reports from around the world and the original church marriage register from the period. Refreshments were served in the courtyard garden.

There was also information about the history of the church and the history of Roman Catholicism in the area.

The exhibition was well attended throughout the day and it was nice to welcome people of all denominations into our church and to see their reaction to this special place.
